UK Retail Sales Increase 2008
Department of Retail Statistics and CBI report that
retail sales for the United Kingdom in the first quarter of 2008 are
up as much as 8%.
By Alastair Agutter
The recent reports of retails sales up in the UK did not come as a
surprise. But what I found to be most disconcerting was the News and
Media spin coming out, implying that everything is rosy in the Garden.
It beggars belief sometimes, but do Government and Retail industry
bodies really believe that the British public are that naive and
gullible.
It's true retail sales are up without any doubt, but the lead on to the
story and reports should of been.....
Retail sales are at an all time high and increase, as a result on
massive increase in Utility Gas and Electric up by some 40% plus.
A ridiculous increase in Petrol and diesel where Government has failed
to intervene and set a tariff in the form of regulation.
The retail food chains making massive increases, taking advantage and
milking the current retail climate.
I have noticed in just a space of three months as one example a pack of
value smoked bacon retailing at 99p increasing to £1.30. That's a
rise in price of over 30%. It's not on, as always the most poor in our
Society struggle.
What concerns me further in the UK at this time, it is without doubt or
question that Labour's success has caused them to become drunk on
success and recent policies in health and education have not been
thought out with reference to the social problems that will be created.
But the real fear is that the British Public may be duped into seeking
an alternative to Labour. The problems we have in fuel, gas, electric,
water etc. Is not as a result of recent Labour decisions.
The reason we are placed in this uncontrollable madness of price
increases squarely lay's at the door of all of us that voted for
Thatcher. It was the good old Conservatives that privatized your water,
electricity, gas etc. These utilities are all out of control, state
energy and resources are National assets, Especially in Wartime.
Nationalization is the only solution, but not ran by civil servants.
The answer is to use aggressive private management.
It is something we all need to not loose sight of, for I fear come a
general election, the British Public may well, make the same grave
mistake again.
